In my opinion, New Orleans began to change after the building of the Super Dome.

A different class of people became the tourists who dressed down for everything.  And more of the transients lost respect for dress and culture.  And then the Orleanians joined the colorless multitude.

Walking, strolling, or cruising the Quarter was such a delight.  Afternoon break away from the office was most enchanting and delightful to visit the quaint shops and venues of the Quarter.
Eventually, Bourbon Street became "T-Shirt Alley" with all its common vulgarisms.
